7.14am until 1pm
It would have been Davey's birthday today, so I decided to take the day off and go fishing. In hindsight, I should of fished Tilcon as it was the last place we fished together and staying local might have been easier. Never one to just take the easy option, I jumped in the car and headed to a club water on the Swale.
I had never fished this section before, so today was also an opportunity to walk it. I walked from the top limit right down to the bottom, and back!
Today's target were chub, but if a barbel came along, icing on the cake!
I parked up, paid my dues and walked to the river. I had a choice, left or right. I didn't think the map was clear, so went left. A short loop later and I was back at the choice again. Right this time, and that was the correct way!
I met a couple of dog walkers on the bridge. We chatted and they showed me their party trick. A few dog biscuits chucked over the bridge and some big chub devouring them!
"We feed them everyday" they said.
This is going to be easy, I thought.
When that is the thought, its usually wrong. Today was no exception. A blank on a new stretch.
In truth, I never got settled. I was always thinking of what the next peg was like. There were lots but with todays rain, the steep banks were slippy. On a different day, I'd still be fishing now! But today, I fished a bit and moved on.
It was the approach, I intended to do, but when your heart is not in it, it's tough.
I went through my baits and did try for a chub but when the rain started and I was snagged on bushes at my feet, I took it as a sign.
I am trying to insert a pic here but blogger won't upload it. It says...
No idea why it won't let me upload the others. I will keep trying, but if not I will take that as a sign too!
Anyway, here it is. Blogger seems to be going crazy. I did have a thought whilst fishing due to a Robin landing on my rod three times, that a Robin is a sign from a dead relative. Now, I don't believe in that and neither would Davey, but I enjoyed sitting on my own today and thinking of him. Fishing with my dad was always fun. Happy memories, and tbh today was good too.
